Do I recommend this book?
If you are looking for a low-fantasy romance story, then yes.
This is a book of two halves for me, The first half I didn’t enjoy because I didn’t gel with the main character. She refuses to ask for help and doesn’t communicate with the other characters, and that really annoyed me. The book is also slow to get going, so these two things made the first half feel arduous. However, the second half really picks up, and the second main character gets more page time. By the end of the story, I found myself rooting for both of them despite my earlier dislike. I enjoyed the humour, and one of my favourite things was the scientific approach to researching faeries. The main character annoyed me, but she really knows her stuff!
Did I enjoy it?
The second half is a lot more than the first.
Any criticisms?
Obviously, the slow start and the annoying main character – but that could just be me.
Will I read the sequel?
Yes, begrudgingly. I want to know what happens, but if it doesn’t turn out the way I want, I won’t be happy!
